House of Peru San Diego's Long-Awaited Cottage in Balboa Park
On July 17th 2021, House of Peru hosted a "soft opening" with a ribbon cutting of the newly constructed House of Peru in Balboa Park. The event took place in the courtyard outside of the House of Peru cottage, in Balboa Park Club, San Diego, California.
The House of Peru's members, volunteers and friends have been working tirelessly for the past 18 years to make this dream a reality. "I am excited to share the culture and traditions of the Peruvian people with the many visitors that come to Balboa Park annually." said Julio Cedillo, Vice President of the organization. We had the presence of the General Consul of Peru in Los Angeles, Jose Luis Chavez, Senator Toni G. Atkins, Assembly member Chris Ward among other special guests.
Founded in 1935, the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages represents 34 cultures. The new houses will include the Philippines, Mexico, Panama, Korea, India, Peru, Chamorros, Palestine and Turkey.
"The purpose of the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages and its members is to create a spirit of understanding, tolerance and goodwill among the various national and ethnic groups represented in the Park," stated Eugenie King, President of the House of Pacific Relations.
Each cottage offers to the visitor a delightful window into each country's culture, history and traditions. Each weekend the House of Pacific Relations hosts a "lawn program" highlighting a different country through music, dance, costumes, arts, crafts, and ethnic foods.
Thank you very much to our AMAZING VOLUNTEERS who made this event possible.
